Carles GR: Guitarist, composer, and multidisciplinary creator
Carles GR, originally from Barcelona and based in Normandy for over 16 years, is a prominent figure in contemporary jazz. Trained at the prestigious Aula de Música Moderna y Jazz, his style combines meticulously crafted melodies with a distinctive crystalline sound. He has released numerous albums, including Tribute to Michael Brecker (2007), Duet (2011), The Impossible Dream (2011), Reflejos (2012), and Palmas & Jazz (2017), among others, and has toured across Europe and South America.
Beyond his musical career, Carles has ventured into literature, coauthoring two books with painter Sophie Dechamps-Génet, and theater, composing and performing in the play La Guild: Quand le jazz s’en mêle…. Founder of the Choza Records studio, he has recorded several albums there and collaborated with regional artists. As an artistic director, he has led festivals such as the Festival International de Jazz de Louviers and the IN Jazz Festival. Carles GR is a true ambassador of jazz as a universal language and a bridge between cultures.
