Short biography

Carles GR: Guitarist, composer, and multidisciplinary creator

Carles GR, originally from Barcelona, trained at the prestigious Aula de Música Moderna y Jazz, where he perfected his technique during five years of higher studies. After graduating, he immersed himself in the vibrant Catalan music scene, collaborating with various local bands before moving to Paris, a city that would mark a turning point in his career.

In 1999, after establishing himself in Parisian jazz clubs, he released his debut album as a leader, Les Sens. This record, composed of ten original tracks, revealed the essence of his style: meticulously crafted melodies and a crystalline sound that became his hallmark.

Two years later, Fables, his second album, was released, again entirely composed by Carles GR. With these two works, he embarked on a series of successful tours across France, Spain, and Belgium, earning recognition from audiences and critics alike.

In 2007, Carles presented Tribute to Michael Brecker, his third album, inspired by the work of the renowned American saxophonist. This project included original compositions by Carles and was accompanied by an extensive tour in South America, performing in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina.

Over the course of his career, Carles has produced numerous albums: Duet (2011), with Aude Lothelet, a dynamic project sung in three languages; The Impossible Dream (2011), a collaboration with Ignasi Terrassa, Pierre Boussaguet, André Ceccarelli, and Austin O’Brien; Reflejos (2012), a remarkable duet album with Pierre Boussaguet, produced by Swit Records; Horizon (2017), with manouche guitarist Sacha Nemmar; Palmas & Jazz: En busca del duende (2017), a vibrant fusion of flamenco and jazz with French guitarist Pablo Gibaux. In 2019, he collaborated on Sea of Stars, an album by English singer Zelda, where Carles co-wrote some tracks, while Zelda wrote others, and he arranged the entire album. In 2024, he is set to release his first solo album, La Trilogie du Temps, exploring his electronic universe.

Throughout his career, Carles has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Philippe Combelle, Pierre Boussaguet, and Ignasi Terrasa, enriching his musical universe with diverse influences. His performances have graced iconic venues such as the Sunside (Paris), the Cova del Drac (Barcelona), and international jazz festivals across Europe and Latin America.

With every chord, Carles GR continues to explore jazz as a universal language, building bridges between cultures and emotions that transcend borders.
